Sports & Fun Days

Every year that the Marble Project visits Berkovitsa, both a Fun Day and a Sports Day are organised for the children and young people in the local institutions. These events give the children time away from their normal environment and bring fun and enjoyment for a day.

The Fun Day

All children from the local institutions are brought together for a day of organised fun events — games, arts and crafts, music, and team challenges. It is a chance for children from different homes to meet, play, and simply be children for a day.

The Sports Day

The Sports Day involves the local schools, where pupils take part in mini organised tournaments across several different sports. It brings together children from across the town for a day of friendly competition.

The Paul Evans Legacy

A particularly notable milestone was a collaboration with Shoebury High School (later Shoebury School). Paul Evans, the school’s Head of Physical Education, brought a group of teenagers from the UK to assist in running sports projects in the local schools of Berkovitsa.

This led to a Sports Day for the children of the entire town which attracted over 500 participants, and the legacy of this event has continued — with an annual Paul Evans sporting event taking place for the last 20 years.
